This is Part 6 of a 10 Part Series, derived from my lecture at the Boston Architectural College Student Lecture Series “Just Futures”. My lecture was titled “The Power of Interior Design to Impact Positive Futures for People and Communities”. My message was that Interior Design has the power and responsibility to positively impact people, communities and their futures, that this can only be achieved through an equitable and inclusive design process, and that positive outcomes for people and communities are the measure of a successful design. I shared this message through stories of our partnerships with our clients and their communities. This is the story of CAFE SUAVAGE
This is the story of a small Parisian cafe, right in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay!

When we first met owners Antoine and Anais Lambert, they told us they wanted to create a Paris cafe, where they could show the real Paris, as a multicultural space. They said that there is a side of French, and especially Parisian cuisine that they wanted to help people discover. They wanted their guests to understand that there is more to Parisian cuisine than just beef bourguignon and escargot!

We designed the space together with them. It has elements of a Paris bistro, but they wanted to bring out the wild in people (sauvage), so the space is designed with plants, real and mural images, and a blend of rich texture and pattern.

In this maybe small way, the hope is that people will experience a culture in a new way, eyes and mouths open.

Treat yourself to an amazing meal (and nutella latte), but make a reservation ahead of time!

If we have any part of people thinking about culture in a new and blended way, and where people can get an awesome nutella latte , I count that as a success
