Boston’s North Star

As a Boston resident born and raised my entire life, I’ve noticed that there’s only one true way that you know you’re in the city of Boston. There’s a landmark that can catch your eye from almost anywhere from the I-95 Highway to the Roxbury Heritage State Park. How could you miss this especially since it’s 749 ft tall? It’s because this landmark is a building and that famous building is the Prudential Tower.

The Prudential Tower, designed by the firm of Charles Luckman Associates is the second tallest building in Boston. It’s the tenth tallest building in the world and what’s surprising is that there’s more than one Prudential. Prudential Financial constructed several Prudential centers in the United States including our very own as capital investments, and our Prudential is under the ownership of Boston Properties. This tower started construction in 1960 and completed in 1964. Along with a very large tower, we have a shopping mall that’s been open since 1993. What impact does the building have on the people of Boston?

The building and the center is a place of business for many, but it’s also a space for all ages to interact and engage with the many stores and dining experiences – and the view is incredible. As of this past June there’s been a new experience for everybody to tour our star called ViewBoston. This building has not only 52 floors but has a view that is so indescribable it’s unlike any other. There’s no building in Boston that can be anymore impressive in my personal opinion.

After getting the opportunity to experience View Boston with everyone at STA Design, I have to say that words can only give you a part of the picture of what I see. Since this building is so large, the view allows you to see almost every single part of all the Boston neighborhoods. For me it feels like walking through my entire life pass me in front of my own eyes. You get a feel of how awesome Boston is but from a much larger perspective. Not only is the view so incredible to observe the city, you can even watch the sunset and sunrise on the 51st floor with a drink of your choice from the bar.

View Boston also includes models of key signature places and landmarks of the state’s capital located on the 52nd floor. Floors 50-52 are open as tourist attractions, but even in the elevator, there’s a series of animations which gives you a feeling of travel and transformation. It might feel scary going up if you’re afraid of heights, but you lose that sense of fear once you look outside the windows. If you feel that there’s so much to see in this city and you just want to experience everything all at once, attending View Boston will give you that experience of what Boston is. It may not give you the same experience of growing up here for 22 years, but it will give you an idea of what it can feel like to be in every single part of the city!
