What made you decide to become a designer?

For some reason I always wanted to become an architect, since I was very little. As far as I can  remember, I did not have any influences from family members,  as no one close to me was an architect. I think at that point I did not know well or in depth the scope of the career, but I believe the artistic side was in me.

I became a designer to help people, to create and bring solutions for living spaces, to improve the quality of living, to minimize the impact on our planet, and to learn how to be more responsible with our world and society. Being a designer is one of my biggest passions.

What inspires you?

My mom is my biggest inspiration and example. She always taught me by example. I saw her never giving up on her dreams and she showed me that with perseverance, hard work, patience, and passion you can achieve what you propose -no barriers as an excuse and the sky has no limits. I thank her for all I am, and I am glad she is here to witness and encourage my dreams.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve done at STA?

I did several great projects at STA. One project in particular was my favorite, Avanti. It is a renewable and environmental battery Company in Watertown. This is a startup company that will enhance the integration of renewable energy.

During my Master’s in architecture at the BAC, I researched renewable and sustainable energy to power my projects. I discovered  Donald Sadoway, a MIT researcher, scientific advisor and mentor that supports many companies and innovation within the field. One of these companies is Ambri, where I used their metal liquid batteries for some of my projects at school. My great surprise was that he also was part of the board of this project, Avanti along with the CEO Luis Ortiz, who also was President and Co-founder of Ambri. Avanti was a great project that I worked on, not only within the architecture, but also because I was part of their journey, helping them. I admire them for working towards more sustainable solutions for our world.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Keep going!!! Life has its ups and downs, but we need to focus on our goals to keep moving forward. We lived through harsh times like with the pandemic, but we need to help and support each other, we live in community. See the beauty of this life in the smallest things and enjoy each day!

What’s something you saw recently that made you smile?

Art. I love art in all its manifestations. I believe architecture is a form of art and creation. I enjoy going to museums and expositions. There is always something to learn and admire. Art is one of the ways of communication through ages.

What’s your favorite season and why?

My favorite season on the East Coast (Boston) is Fall. I enjoy looking at the trees changing colors before the leaves fall. The temperature is enjoyable, not cold, not hot and you still can enjoy outdoor activities feeling a fresh breeze.

What energizes you outside of work?

Dance!!! Dancing is one of my passions as well. It is also a form of art, a form of communication and expression. It relaxes me and makes my mind travel to a calm place. It brings me joy and fun!!! Through dance I am able to connect with different cultures and represent them. I am able to understand and unify our differences and connect with different people.
